Havening Techniques were developed by Dr Ronald Ruden in collaboration with his brother Dr Steven Ruden. They are based in New York, running private medical and dental practices respectively. Over the last three decades Dr Ron Ruden has translated the recent advances in neuroscience into new methods of healing. For more than 10 of those years he has focused on designing, researching, clinically testing and evolving an effective set of techniques for gently, quickly and effectively treating trauma and other amygdala-based challenges that involve flight or fight responses

The result of this ground-breaking work is Havening Techniques.

This training is ideal for personal development specialists, Coaches, Psychotherapists, Hypnotherapists, NLP Practitioners, Counsellors, CBT therapists, Psychologists, Medical Practitioners, Complementary Health Practitioners, Teachers, Emergency Services including First Responders, EFT, TFT and EMDR Practitioners.

The Havening Techniques work by permanently de linking the emotional charge from the associated memory. Through Havening we are able to help build a more resilient landscape or innate support system so that when stressful life events or trauma are experienced we are more capable of coping with these stressors.

Havening is deceptively simple, powerful and yet gentle.

Havening uses the sensory input of touch as a key part of its effectiveness. The practitioner or the clients themselves Haven or gently stroke their face, arms or hands. This is what triggers the delta waves in the brain. The delta waves in turn prompt helpful chemical chain-reactions in the amygdala. This removes specific AMPA Receptors from the surface of neurons in the amygdala where the traumatic event is ‘stored’. For particular types of Havening there are also distraction techniques used. The distractions keep the area of the brain storing the trauma from being constantly re-activated. Traumatic experiences can lead to the brain encoding the experience in ways that can lead to psychological and / or physical ‘symptoms’. Havening can help to treat all of these symptoms.

Havening can be used to effectively treat

      • Phobias
      • Chronic Pain
      • Emotional responses resulting from experiences of natural disaster, traumatic events, assault, rape, abuse, victim of crime and also experiences of war
      • Removing the emotional responses to distressing memories such as broken relationships, shocking news, loss and shame
      • Removing anger responses
      • Removing fear of abandonment
      • Helping people release grief
      • Helping people remove unhelpful feelings: stress, frustration, upset etc
      • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
      • Panic attacks

Havening can also be used to help visualize more positive outcomes and to reframe perceived failures. It can help people prepare for meetings, presentations and in dealing with the unknown. It can also be used to help increase confidence and to help people prime their minds for greater performance. The state produced from the delta waves created by the Havening touch provides a natural source for inspiration and hopeful thinking.

Havening can be used along with other healing modalities and tends to enhance the effectiveness of other methods when used in combination with them, thereby increasing the rate of results
